What are we supposed to be as a Church?  Today we look at the 3 great mandates of the Church.  The Great Commandment, the Great Commission & the Great Cultivation.

Fellowship Around the Table

Words have meaning.  Familiarity breeds contempt.  Communion is one of those words.  In 1 Corinthians 10:16 Paul uses the word 'koinanea' and it is translated communion, share, or participation.  That normative 1st century understanding has a lot to teach us about what is really happening when we engage Christ in the sacrament of 'Communion'

Pitfalls part 2

Division - Exclusion - Corruption. 3 potholes on the path to greatness where first are last & servants are kings.  Jesus, once again, turns the disciples' thinking upside down.  The Kingdom of God is the photographic negative of the kingdom of man.  Jesus shoots them a hard hitting challenge to ruthlessly root out sin in all it's forms.

Pitfalls on the Path of Discipleship

Jesus sneaks out the back door on the heels of casting a demon out of a young boy and heads back to his home base (Peter's house) in Capernum.  On the way Jesus , for the second time in as many weeks, plainly tells his men of his impending death at the passover feast in Jerusalem this year.  They can't receive the news because they are too busy deciding who will be the greatest in the Kingdom.  Wow...Pride divides and Jesus is going to show them how to fix it.

Lessons from the Valley of Go Figure

Jesus comes down from the mountain of Transfiguration into the Valley of 'Go Figure'.  His disciples have blown it and are arguing with the scribes.  A desperate Dad and a sick son are at the center of the chaos.  Jesus demonstrates his power, cleanses the boy, infuses the Dad with faith and rebukes the disciples...all in a day's work.
