David tops the hill, Ziklag is smoldering, Family is captive, Wealth is stolen. Weeping ensues then talk of revenge: Not on the Amalekits...On David. Our future King is in the Press of God. He's being crushed & what comes out of him after his tears are exhausted is Repentance & a Return to the Lord his God. "Bring me the Ephod" is the command. Let's see what God has to say. We have much to learn & apply from this chapter of David's life.

I suspect that you've never had to run for your life for a decade. David did along with his family & the families of his 600 men. That'll wear on you after ten plus long years. 1 Samuel 27 is the record of a man who was weary of God's plan so he turns his back on faith and leans on his own best idea. On the surface, it worked. God even blessed him...until the bottom fell out and David, via God's sovereignty and grace, came to his senses and began to seek God again.
