Christ our King

He is our Prophet, Priest and King.  A Prophet who WAS the Word that He brought from the Father.  A Priest who WAS the Sacrifice that He offered for our alienation.  A King who IS the Obedience He demands and the Righteousness that God Requires to rule over our Rebellion.

Jesus our Great High Priest

We need a Priest to offer a sacrifice from a sinful man to a holy God.  To stand in between offended Sovereign & offending sinner.  Oh but this Priest isn't just any priest.  He is the priest to end all priests.  The Sacrifice he offers...is himself!  

Jesus our Prophet

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior who is Christ the Lord.

Prophet, Priest & King.  Jesus fulfilled all three roles in himself...and He still does.

This Means War

The Virgin Birth is not a warm and sentimental doctrine of Advent.  It is a declaration of War, a demonstration of the wages of sin and human inability.  It is also an unspeakable act of the Mercy of the Almighty.  When we understand this truth then all we'll want for Christmas is a crushed snake skull.

Peace in the Flesh

Sometimes we just need to have spiritual realities 'enfleshed' or 'fleshed out' for us.  That's the point that the imprisoned, impassioned apostle makes in the oft overlooked vs 9.  The context drives us back to vs 2 to see this whole section as a path to relational peace.  Good, solid, practical truth.  

What are you Thinking?

We do a lot of 'thinking' on any given day.  How many of those thoughts are we bringing under the authority of King Jesus?  Paul presents a list of pondering fodder that will lead to Peace.  We would do well to pay close attention.
